National Azerbaijan
Opened by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in September 2013, the parkland-styled course at the National Azerbaijan Golf Club is set in rolling open country and was designed by Jon Hunt of the International Design Group.
Water comes into play on several holes, most notably at the par three 4th, which plays to a pond-protected green, and on the back nine at holes 14 and 15, where another pond separates the two fairways.
Long punishing two-shot holes characterize the main challenge here, where the only par four measuring under 370 yards from the back tees arrives late in the round at the slightly right doglegged 17th hole.
This golfing facility was built as the HQ for the newly created Azerbaijan Golf Federation and the course, which measures 7,011 yards, staged the Azerbaijan Golf Challenge Open (a new event on the European Challenge Tour) in July 2014, which Germany’s Moritz Lampert won.
