The National Golf Club (Old)

The Old Course at The National is one of the most iconic courses in the country.

The ‘Old’ is the first golf course built at The National GC and to a lot of the members is still the most popular to play and enjoy.

Given that I’d spent the week in between the sophistication of the Melbourne sandbelt and the down to earth nature of some of the pay-and-play minimalism amongst the Mornington Peninsula, the corporate set-up at The National was a little confronting.

Probably my favourite course on the whole trip, not an ounce of flat at all , with every shot a challenge.

Absolutely breathtaking, with amazing elevations, beautifully curvaceous, brilliant bunkering and changeable winds that make it play different each time - yet rarely too difficult to enjoy.

There is never any doubt about what you get when playing a RTJ golf course.

I played the Old Course for the first time on the weekend and for me the jury is, to a degree, still out.

I'd be waiting with baited breath to play the old course at the National.

Set in a huge elevated dunescape with sweeping ocean views, The Old Course is nothing if not dramatic!
