National Pines

Barrie lies within the northern sector of Ontario’s Greater Golden Horseshoe, on the western shore of Lake Simcoe, and a fifteen-minute drive south of the town centre will bring you to the National Pines Golf Club.

Designed by prolific Canadian architect Thomas McBroom, the course first opened for play in 1992 and more than half the fairways are set out around the water-laden attractions of Lovers Creek, where forced carries are required on many of the holes.

The front nine is more meadowland in aspect before the course routing takes holes through dense stands of pine trees on the back nine. It goes without saying that accuracy off the tee is essential on the inward half, none more so than on the dangerous, right doglegged short par four 15th.

The most difficult hole on the front nine is undoubtedly the 458- yard 4th, which kinks slightly to the right from tee to green, whilst the 426-yard 18th veers in the opposite direction as the fairway heads towards the home green.
