The members of Niitvälja Golf Club are proud of the fact that their course was the first golf facility to open in the Baltic region back in 1993 when nine holes were initially made available, with another nine following a year later.
Laid out on relatively flat terrain, the Niitvälja course presents a decent test for golfers as many of its tree-lined fairways are tight (only holes 1-3, 9 and 18 are open) and water hazards lie in wait on fifteen of its holes where, as the club states on its website, errant shots “will be sacrificed to the Water Fairy.”
Three of the four short holes on the card (at 2, 6 and 13) present challenging aquatic obstacles between tee box and putting surface but the signature hole at Niitvälja is the par five 15th – named “Cry Island” – where the hole plays to an island green located to the left of the fairway.
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
