Today, the course extends to 5,971 metres from the back tees, playing to a par of 72, with holes arranged as two returning nines. Water comes significantly into play at only a couple of the par five holes on the card: in front of the peninsula green at the 8th and alongside the left of the fairway on the 11th.
Highlight holes include the left doglegging short par four 3rd; the 366-metre 7th (rated stroke index 2); the 560-metre 11th that runs along the railway line with out of bounds on the left; and the par four 18th which plays to a bunkerless home green located next to the clubhouse.
Frank Pont began consulting at the club in 2017 and he oversaw the renovation of holes 1-7 and 17 over the following six years. Plans are in place to continue this improvement work.
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
