Captain A. Conway and Mr Gilbert Martin
Founded in 1892, North Otago Golf Club re-located three times before finally settling at its current location to the south of Oamuru in 1927. Captain A. Conway and Mr Gilbert Martin co-designed the 18-hole layout that’s still in play today.
Rex Gould commented as follows in Top New Zealand Golf Courses:
"A tree lined golf course, North Otago is undulating to hilly with generally small target greens. Panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from vantage points on many holes are spectacular...
The par 5, 8th hole is a double dog-leg and plays downhill . Here you will require an accurate drive to reach level ground. A bunker is well positioned on the left to trap those trying to reach the green in two.
A creek in front of the tee and out-of-bounds on the right will face you on the tee at the par 4 18th. Best position off the tee is left; from here you will have a level approach shot into the green."
