Golfers have a reasonable selection of courses to play on Grand Cayman as golf becomes an increasingly popular sport with both tourists and locals. The Brittania Golf Club has a family-orientated course laid out on the breezy North Sound of the island and it’s a Jack Nicklaus-designed 9-hole layout that also includes tees to play it as an 18-hole, par 57, executive course. Just to the north of here at the Ritz-Carlton, Greg Norman’s challenging Blue Tip 9-hole course is set out over a generous 120-acre site with water coming into play on eight of the holes. Next door to this property is Grand Cayman’s only 18-hole layout, the North Sound Club, commonly known as the Links at Safehaven. Designed by Englishman Roy Case in 1994, the course was built in the style of a "traditional Scottish links course" (according to ill-informed marketeers) with par set at 71. With beautifully manicured fairways edged by palm trees and generously proportioned greens protected by white powder sand bunkers, North Sound is an idyllic place to play golf - what you might call a golfing paradise, in fact. |
Reviews for North Sound
Fun 18 hole course, excellent par threes including a difficult sea level 11th hole, over 200 yards into the prevailing breeze. Friendly staff throughout, practice area, carts no caddies. Ask the ProShop to see if they can arrange a game with local members (good mix UK, Canada, US and more). Enjoy the course and the outdoor bar after the game! I’ve played here the past 10 years.

The North Sound Club runs over very flat land there is lots of water on the property although much of it is not in play for most players the course offers the chance to score well it is a bit on the short side by modern standards with many short par 4’s and the 3 par 3’s on the front are not much over 100 yards the course may have the easiest opening hole on the planet a 100 yard par 3 to large circular bunkerless green with a gentle back to front slope. There is enough challenge to keep it interesting especially when the wind gets up the par 3 11th is nice hole 180 yards with a pond at the front and the ocean at the back this is the only time the course actually approaches the coast the 18th is another quality hole a par 5 that doglegs around the largest lake on the property the greens have enough movement in them to make it challenging without going overboard.
The course has always been in good condition any time I have played there and the service is always excellent overall a very pleasant round if you are holidaying on the island.
