Situated under majestic redwoods Northwood Golf Club offers 9 holes of challenging golf. Despite its lack of length, the course itself is tight and highly strategic. Positioning off the tee is a must. Glimpses of Dr. Alister MacKenzie’s design shines through. Take for example the 6th hole, a 280 yard par 4 dogleg right. While conventional wisdom suggests one bite off as much as possible, MacKenzie presents two distinct options, a 200-210 yard fade with minimal room for error, starting off at the trees and peeling to the left side of the fairway; or a 150-160 yard tee shot on the right of the fairway. A shot from 160-200 will reward you with a blind approach, regardless of if you're in the short grass. The 210 yard shot, the one I presume most take, will leave one wishing they could chew off a few more yards for the seemingly impossible shot. Northwood Golf Club is certainly a surgical test that tests one's ball placement and positioning. Redwoods tower the course lining fairways, demanding a certain level of accuracy and courage. A magical place certainly to play.
