Northwood is a parkland course with a 'linksy' feel mostly due to the undulating fairways. I am a member and as such I am a bit biased. Nevertheless I think the course is worthy of a (first) review. At 6,500 yards par 71 it's not a particularly long course by today's standards, however it is a very good test of golfing skills. With only three par 3s and two par 5s it is unusual. The holes are all very different with the best being the 5th, a par 4 of 464 yards stroke index 1. A beautiful hole framed by two large bunkers set about 80 yards from the green. A par here is very good indeed. The course benefits from USPGA greens which were laid about eight years ago. The greens presented a challenge at first, but glad to say under a new course management regime they have significantly improved. As indeed has the whole course which is in a lovely condition, including all the bunkers recently refurbished. Northwood is located near Moor Park Golf Club, about ten minutes from the M25 and 15 minutes from the M40. Not the number one course in Middlesex for nothing and well worth a visit in my humble opinion.
