Old Hawthorne

Despite the name, “Old Hawthorne” is actually quite new, being designed during 2007 by Keith Foster associate Art Schaupeter.

Choices of route are a recurring theme throughout the round as players are frequently faced with centreline bunkers and other hazards that imply multiple ways to the green, with the more efficient of the two usually requiring a daring shot from the tee. The case-and-point is the closer, where the dangerous route right gives a healthy look at the green while the play to the conservative lower fairway leaves nothing but blindness.

All this comes into play during events hosted by the University of Missouri (which calls Old Hawthorne its home club,) and during “The Stampede,” a member-guest event that has gained such popularity during the club’s short existence as to be labeled the best member-guests event in the United States by GOLF Magazine. Make a friend try to remember the best moves before you get invited back for The Stampede!

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
