Old Waverly is a wonderful golf course. Has some really tough holes but then gives you a nice risk reward reprieve. The brainchild of George Bryan it has a plethora of lakes with the largest being lake Waverly that comes into play on 5 holes. It is a Pate/Cupp design and opened in 1988. Only eleven years later it hosted the 1999 Women’s US Open won by Julie Inkster. The first few holes welcome you in and four through seven wind through the woods. The 7th is a par 3 with the babbling Palmer Falls, named after you know who in front of the green. The ninth is the longest par five, yet it is only 555 yards. The back nine is much tougher starting off with the par 5 10th. A dog leg left the latter half wraps around Lake Waverly. The 11th is a long par 4 with water all along the left and you can decide how much of the lake you want to cut off. The 12th is a 173 yard par 3 but if the pin is tucked left watch out for Lake Waverly. The 14th is probably your best birdie oppty on the back, a good drive sets you up but there is not a lot of room left or right. The par 5 15th has a split fairway. I cannot give good advice here, as I managed to double bogey it from the left and the right. The 16th is a well designed par 4, however, I cannot stress enough DO NOT BE ABOVE THE HOLE. The last two holes at Old Waverly are fantastic. The 17th a 190 yard par 3 over Lake Waverly and the 445 yard dog leg left over Lake Waverly is a fantastic finishing hole. Two thumbs up!!
