Old Waverly Club
In the late 1980s, businessman George Bryan – former proprietor of Bryan Foods, now part of the Sara Lee Corporation – was the man behind the formation of Old Waverly Golf Club. He’s since purchased an old dairy farm to the northwest of this property and created another golf facility, Mossy Oak Golf Club, which opened for public play in 2016.
The raison d’être of the Old Waverly Golf Club is “capturing the essence of the Scottish Highlands within the graceful setting of the Old South.” The course is routed around numerous lakes: Lake Azalea, Pecan, Camellia, Livesay’s and the largest of them all, Lake Waverley, so the theme is certainly more in the style of Loch Lomond than Gleneagles.
Old Waverly offer stay and play packages in villas and cottages with sensibly priced guest green fees. Host to the 1999 US Women’s Open when Juli Inkster took the field apart to win by five strokes. Old Waverly also saw the University of Mississippi women's golf coach Meghan Bolger capture the 2006 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur title, so there is no doubting the pedigree of Old Waverly Golf Club.
The club hosted the U.S. Women’s Amateur championship in 2019, won by Gabriela Ruffels.
