Orna (East & West)

Orna Golf & Country Club lies within the Orna Resort, less than half hour’s drive from Malacca city. Since it opened in 1997, the course has provided a tough test for professional golfers, where it’s regularly used to host the Asian Tour Qualifying School.

A fair amount of earth was moved when sculpting the wide playing corridors here and the fairways weave around residential units on a large, undulating property that’s been enhanced by the installation of several man-made lakes.

The 27-hole facility is set out as three 9-hole courses, with the East and West nines combining to form the 18-hole championship layout. The North nine shouldn’t be dismissed, even though it’s the shortest and easiest of the three circuits, because it’s no shrinking violet at 2,911 metres from the back markers.

Feature holes include the eye-catching par three 12th, played to an island green, and the closing holes on the East and the West (holes 9 and 18), which are laid out on either side of a lake, converging to finish in front of the clubhouse.

The West course is also available for evening play as its fairways are fully floodlit.
