“The waters of Ellicott Creek are a significant factor here,” commented Dan Wexler in The American Private Golf Club Guide, “particularly at holes like the 228-yard 5th (which angles across a corner of the hazard), the 138-yard 13th (featuring a tightly bunkered green set close to its banks) and the 415-yard 18th, which requires a long forced carry to a creek-fronted green.
A bit of backbone is supplied by the three big par 4s (the 2nd, 12th and the 16th), making this a pleasant old test which, though better suited to members than professionals, still provides a handful of challenging moments.”
