This is a lovely place to play golf. The setting is beautiful, the staff are great. The course is very playable, not too long and fairly forgiving. The greens were in terrific condition, the tees good, and the fairways OK.Highlights are the par 3s, which are all very good, especially the 17th, which requires very careful clubbing into a narrow green. We played on Easter Sunday, so the course was busy, but we got round in under 4 hours.Whilst we loved the course, and it is the sort of course of which you would be glad to be a member, I don't quite see it as deserving of its ranking. Quinta do Peru, not far away, is in my view, a sterner test, and the new Palmares is in a completely different class, yet Penha Longa gets a higher rating? I don't see it , but maybe someone else does?
