Peterculter
The Aberdeen suburb of Peterculter lies on the north bank of the River Dee, less than half an hour’s drive from the city centre. The golf club was formed in 1991, following the acquisition of a riverside tract of land on which local engineer Eddie Lappin laid out the course, routing holes 4, 5 and 10 to 12 alongside the fast flowing waters of the river.
Today, the course measures a reasonable 6,224 yards from the medal tees, playing to a par of 71. With only two of the par four holes measuring in excess of 400 yards in length (at 9 and 13), and four sensibly proportioned par threes (at 3, 8, 10 and 15), it certainly never feels like a hard slog when playing here.
Sandwiched between par fives on the front nine, the most deceptively difficult hole on the outward half is the 365-yard, left doglegged 6th, named “Dee View”. Here, an accurate tee shot from a semi blind tee position is key as a centre-right placement on the fairway will allow the best angle of approach to the green.
Some reckon the 187-yard 10th is the “signature hole” at Peterculter with the tee shot on this par three played towards a well-bunkered green that’s backed by the River Dee, with an old ghillie’s hut located on the other river bank to remind golfers of the area’s fishing heritage.
World Top 100 Golf Courses
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
