Was over in Botswana and played both courses in Gabarone. For two reasons Phakalane is a really eye opener 1) the course is very good and 2) it just shows you how much wealth there is in Botswana. So, the course. It was winter so the fairways were brown, but the greens were excellent. There are lots of risk reward holes, some short driveable par 4s but masses of trouble all around the green. The best stretch of holes are from 4-9, with 2 back to back par 5s that are very difficult. The 18th is a really good hole, par 5 but if you cut the corner over a lake and an expanse of scrub and trees then you will have no more than a wedge to the green. Lastly the clubhouse, it is amazing and it serves the best sunday bbq lunches in town. Oh yes, and the houses that line the fairways, unbelievable...some people in Botswana are making a lot of money. Looks like the equivalent of St George's Hill or Wentworth. If you are in Botswana then this is the place to play.
