We wouldn’t want to call Rees Jones a liar, so we’ll confirm that the Piedmont Driving Club is certainly one where players will be encouraged to air it out from the tee. And in the instances where a bunker may impose on the landing area? Perhaps the club’s title will provide some peer pressure.
Although the club’s hub is located just a short way north from downtown Atlanta, members will “drive” themselves to the less-crowded suburbs of College Park to find the solitary golf course, uninterrupted by housing and other urban bustle.
The course is located around Cowart Lake, which provides a coastal hazard for nine of the holes. The most dramatic of which may be the closer, where players tee off across a wide portion of the lake to a fairway that remains guarded by the drink all the way along the right. Finally, a peninsular green awaits to conclude the 560-yard hole, and the round.
The two nines are conveniently separated by the lake, with the front nine occurring closer to the clubhouse, while players travel a lengthy bridge to the north side of the body to face the final nine.
