Pilará

Located approximately 40 kilometres to the northwest of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, the golf course at Pilará is the first Jack Nicklaus signature design in the country. The 188-acre undulating course opened for play in 2013 and is set in the polo capital of the world, beside Pilar’s famous fields of the “Asociación Argentina de Polo”.

The Golden Bear’s signature design here at Pilará is rather different to the Nicklaus Design at nearby Nordelta in that Pilará’s greensites are much larger (450m2 on average) and way more undulating than the greens at Nordelta. Multiple tee boxes stretch the par 72 layout from 5,083 yards for the ladies to 7,216 yards from the back plates.

Seventy-six white-sand bunkers and water at eight holes protect par and demand precise shot making. The sand capped fairways undulate pleasantly and when the shadows are long the ground movement actually looks rather dramatic.

Pilará is not the easiest of Argentina’s golf facilities to access, but persevere as it’s well worth the effort to play the best Nicklaus course in the country.
