Pinawa
The small settlement of Pinawa was established in 1901 when a hydroelectric station was built but this closed down in the 1950s. A decade later, a nuclear research facility was constructed but this too was decommissioned with a planned completion date of 2024. The golf course lives on though with fairways laid out along the south side of the Pinawa channel.
Provincial Road 211 runs through the layout, separating most of the holes from the clubhouse side. A round begins at the 1st then golfers cross the road to play holes 2 to 7 before returning to complete the front nine. The opening and closing hole on the back nine are played close to the clubhouse, with holes 11-17 laid out across the road.
Highlight holes include the left doglegging par five 5th (rated stroke index 1); the short par four 9th (played across a bay in the lake); the par five 17th (with a pond protecting the left of the green); and the 354-yard 18th, which swings dramatically right from the tee box towards the home green.
