In 2009, architect Randy Heckenkemper upgraded the 18-hole layout at Pinnacle Country Club so the course now features Bermuda rough, Zorro Zoysia fairways and Tyee bentgrass greens. Located outside Rogers in Benton County, the layout is the centrepiece of an upmarket residential development that started out as Champions Golf & Country Club in 1990.
Highlight holes include the 578-yard 2nd and 625-yard 14th, with both of these difficult par fives rated the toughest holes on their respective nines. There’s no doubting the signature hole on the scorecard, the 161-yard 15th, which plays to an island green that has three protecting bunkers placed round the perimeter of the putting surface.
Since 2007, the club has hosted the NW Arkansas Championship on the LPGA Tour. Stacey Lewis won the first event as an amateur, though the tournament was reduced to only 18 holes because of bad weather. She returned seven years later as a professional to claim the first prize pot of $300,000, proving her earlier win in a curtailed event was no fluke.
