Pitlochry GC, a course that I had long wanted to play having passed through the town a few years ago, and witnessed the astounding natural beauty of the area. Starting the visit with sampling some breakfast in the amazing bright red swiss chalet clubhouse has to be one of the most unique clubhouses I have ever seen.
Sat on the terrace watching some early intrepid golfers play the 18th a severe downhill hole to a monstrous undulating green certainly heightened my anticipation. I played with 2 members whom were able to give me some much needed advice on the blind tee shot holes, and some reassurance that the climb of the first 3 holes were the worst of the physicality and the walk became a lot gentler thereafter.
Reaching the near summit for the first time stood on the 4th green, you appreciate the magnificence of the area, with views stretching for miles on a clear morning, this is a special part of the world.
There are a lot of memorable holes scattered throughout the course, the condition of the course was perfectly acceptable, however the members assured me that it can be much better, and firmer. The course on reflection deserves its place in many rankings and most certainly worth a visit.

Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
