The course is hidden in the northeastern part of Catalunya The Golf de Pals course is an iconic classic that is carved through a canopy of umbrella pines close to Playa de Pals beach. Playa de Pals beach.

The Spanish Open was held here in the year 1972 (this was actually the first event ever held by the PGA European Tour) when Antonio Garrido won, but the course has more recent years been used for the European PGA as one of their final qualifying schools.

It was designed created by Fred W. Hawtree in 1966, the layout of 18 holes is set on a flat land with a great sandy soil that drains freely which ensures that the fairways are tree-lined and narrow. are never flooded even in the event of a heavy Mediterranean rain.

In addition to being surrounded by trees, most important defences for this Golf de Pals course are the strategically placed fairways and greenside bunkers. They are most apparent in the half dozen doglegged holes along the course.

Five par fives on the course that help raise the par for the course of 6,263 metres to 73. The three holes that start the round are all par fours that are less than 350 metres long and they are designed to provide an easy introduction to the course. The final three holes however, are quite demanding, with two long par fives on either on either side of the 369-metre 17th hole, a par four that runs to the right.
