Powder Horn (Mountain & Stag)

The Rocky Mountain golf community of Powder Horn is located in a 900-acre site beneath the watchful guard of the Big Horn Mountains. Welcome to Wyoming, cowboy country, where the Little Goose Creek babbles. It’s not quite the Wild West these days, it’s a little more genteel, in fact, Powder Horn was rated highly as one of Where to Retire Magazine's “Top 100 Master Planned Communities”. Ye hah!

The golf course is naturally at the heart of the community and Powder Horn Golf Club can now boast a 27-hole championship facility. The original course, which opened for play in 1997, consists of the Mountain loop, built with an eye on the Home of Golf and the course even includes a replica of the Swilcan Bridge. The other formative nine is now called the Stag loop which weaves its way through stands of mature trees and wetlands. The third and newer nine is called the Eagle and it’s a lengthy course which is routed across former meadowland. All three 9-hole courses were designed by Dick Bailey.

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
