The Preserve Golf Club

The residents in the exclusive Santa Lucia Preserve gated community are residing on an immense area that spans over 30 square miles within the hills that surround Monterey. The only way to access this exclusive enclave is through an 8-mile stretch of stretch of road that winds through an eerie world. Preserve Golf Club Preserve Golf Club is at the center of the community and has an original clubhouse in Spanish style constructed in the 1920s. It also has an Tom Fazio-designed golf course that was opened in 2000.

Within this stunningly private tract of land, it's astonishing to discover that fewer then 350 acres utilized to construct the course, with golf designer Tom Fazio watering less than one quarter of the area because of a complex recycling system. With old oaks that frame several holes, canyons, and breathtaking Californian weather, it's not a surprise that Fazio stated, "I was going wild the first time I visited since I had nothing like this. You can pick any hole to put on the front of my book. It is that type of course and a natural environment".

Fairways that were once part of the ranching land are laid in a series of valleys and hills that are located at the base of the Santa Lucia Range and they were sand-capped to facilitate water percolation, increase the recapture of irrigation and improve the all-round playability of course.

Natural ponds and streams are incorporated into the layout with holes that have been carved into large areas of forested, tumbling terrain. Interestingly, despite such landscape the architect deemed that it was essential to move twelve tall oak trees in order to boost shot-values on the various holes.
