The 54-hole golf complex at Prestonwood Country Club features the Highlands course as the best of its three 18-hole layouts. Tom Jackson, a former Robert Trent Jones Sr. associate, designed the course.
The club was established in 1988, when 27 holes were available for play. By the middle of the 1900s, another twenty-seven holes had been added to form the Meadows, Highlands and Fairways 18-hole layouts. All three courses were renovated between 2009 and 2011.
The club has hosted the SAS Championship on the PGA Tour Champions professional circuit for senior players since 2001, when Bruce Lietzke won the inaugural event. A composite course is used for the tournament, with a combination of Highlands holes used as the front nine.
The signature hole on the property is the 168-yard 17th on the Highlands course (used as #8 for the SAS Championship) which plays to an island green located in Crabtree Creek. Similar to the famous 17th on the Stadium course at TPC Sawgrass, this hole has broken quite a few hearts in its time.
