T Golf Palma
Puntiró Golf Club (as it was originally called) is set in an area known as “S’ Estanyol” and it’s a delightfully tranquil spot despite being located a mere nine kilometres from bustling Palma city centre. Mallorca, or Majorca, is the largest of the Spanish Balearic Islands and there is plenty of great golf to be sampled on this beautiful but much maligned island – there are around a dozen courses located within a short drive of Palma itself.
Opened on the 1st September 2006, The 18-hole layout is the first Majorcan course to come from the Nicklaus Design stable. The layout is intelligently routed across a mature 164 acres where specimen pines, olive and carob trees flank many fairways. Seeded with Bermuda grass from tee to green, the course will take some time to fully establish but, with the absence of housing, the course is set to become one of Mallorca’s best.
Each and every hole is varied from the next and each reaches out to every conceivable compass point. Two huge lakes make for serious excitement at 7, 8, 15 and 16 where some cunning Nicklaus risk and reward elements tempt you into potential watery graves. Measuring 6,714 yards from the back tees against a par of 71 makes for a serious challenge, but the course rarely feels long but rest assured, accuracy is far more important than length. The rough is most definitely rough, with rocky outcrops, plenty of stones and native vegetation lurking to thwart recovery shots. Hit the relatively generous fairways on this very good new Mallorcan layout and you may card a decent score.
An announcement was made in March 2022 that T Club had acquired Golf Park Mallorca Puntiro. The course is to be rebranded as T Golf Palma, with the course at T Golf & Country Club becoming T Golf Calvia. The official statement for T Golf Palma continued:
"Work is due to restore the course to Jack’s original dream with revamped fairways, bunkers, water hazards and greens. The clubhouse will also undergo restoration to bring it up to the high standards set by T Club at T Golf Calvia."
