A beautiful setting, with a course that almost completely matches up.
The RAC Club is wonderfully located in some beautiful rolling hills in the Surrey countryside, and the clubhouse and facilities are spectacular. The Old Course is well put together and plays into the hilly and partial heathland terrain nicely.
Not overly long, there are few par 4s that require driver off the tee for mid to long hitters, often with strategically placed bunkers and narrowing of the fairway on driver length, so it is more of chance to plot your way around and attempt to find the right level of some tough multi tiered greens.
The course condition (in early June) was phenomenal, but the speed of the fairways and the often severely-sloped greens provides further defence and makes scoring that much trickier.
Standout holes are two par 5s - the 4th (pictured) is a fantastic snaking hole with a raised tee and then beautiful uphill approach to a raised green, and the signature 18th is a very attractive risk-reward hole, with a second shot into the green (in front of the clubhouse) possible if you cut the corner with your drive.
Slightly more diversity and some stronger par 3s/ 5s would have seen this score higher in my eyes, and would escalate the course alongside some of the ‘bigger’ Surrey names and the facility as a whole.

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
