Set out on hilly terrain, the eighteen fairways at Rancamaya Golf & Country Club are routed around a number of interconnected lakes with golfers forced to play blind shots on several of the holes. Ted Robinson designed the course in the mid-1990s and it’s laid out in two loops of nine holes, each returning to the clubhouse.
The round at Rancamaya starts in spectacular style at “Volcano,” the 390-yard 1st hole, where the opening tee shot – played towards the distant peaks of Mount Salak – plummets hundreds of feet down to a fairway that skirts past a lake on the right on its way to the green.
On the back nine, two of the best holes on the card are found at the 323-yard 12th (“Devil’s Advocate”) and 288-yard 16th (Snakes and Ladders”), both of which are excellent short par fours that dogleg left from tee to green.
