The Rock Creek Cattle Company isn’t the only club in the Missoula area that has used former ranch land for establishing a fine golf course. Nor was it the first! Les Furber was in the region five years prior, establishing The Ranch Club’s 18-hole course. While the aforementioned club may currently be the top-ranked in the state, The Ranch sits closer to the urban confines of Missoula...and may be an easier tee time to get as well.
The course is a humble collection of manufactured links, with wide rolling fairways traveling between large bunkers and swathes of fescue separating holes from humanity (there is a real estate development tied into The Ranch). The ponds that dot the property are a less linksy feature, and the course stretches to just beyond the 7,000 yard marks for scratch players.
If you find yourself in the rare occasion that you’re waiting to take a shot, take a moment and look up instead...the central location of The Ranch gives credence to Montana’s nickname of the “Big Sky” state.
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
