Real Castiello
Founded in 1958, Real Club de Golf de Castiello started out with a 9-hole course before this layout was doubled in size in the early 1980s. The holes were then modified and improved before club members acquired the property in 2004.
Situated on high ground just outside Gijón in the neighbourhood of Castiello de Bernueces, the course offers magnificent views of the surrounding landscape, with holes laid out across rolling terrain.
Measuring a modest 5,369 metres (par 70) from the back tees, the course starts and ends with a par five. Holes are arranged as two returning nines and water only comes into play once, when the dammed Arroyo de San Miguel cuts across the fairway on the tough 12th hole.
Highlights at Real Castiello include the 134-metre 4th – shortest of the five par threes on the card – with a severe drop off to the left of the hole, and the tight, double doglegging 18th which plays uphill to the heavily sand-protected home green.
World Top 100 Golf Courses
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
