Reichswald-Nürnberg

Although Golf Club am Reichswald was founded in 1960, an inaugural 9-hole course didn’t appear until four years later. Another decade would then pass before today’s 18-hole layout came into play in 1974. Thomas Himmel redesigned and reconstructed the bunkers in the late 1990s.

Located immediately to the north of Nürnberg airport, the course was literally hewn from the thick forested terrain that lies on that side of the airfield. Today, the layout extends to 6,220 metres from the back tees, with holes arranged as two returning nines.

Feature holes on this tight, tree-lined layout include the short par four 6th (doglegging right to an offset, sand-protected green) and the 397-metre 8th (rated stroke index 1) which veers a little left off the tee and narrows as it heads towards the green.

On the back nine, the 124-metre 14th is the shortest (and best) of the par threes, followed immediately by the right doglegging 15th which features a small pond to the right of the green. The final par five at the 17th offers a reasonable chance of a late birdie.
