Ralph Plummer made multiple visits to the Ridgewood Country Club to complete their golf course. The first course sat with Lake Waco as its backdrop and worked well until the Army Corp of Engineers chose to expand the lake, covering the course in the process. Plummer returned, 16 years later, and created a new course, which was hailed as significantly better than his first rendition (experience building courses around Texas in that time couldn’t have hurt).
All of the par threes feature water as a hazard but, interestingly, the aforementioned Lake Waco is only involved with one of them. Nos. 3, 5 and 12 are all guarded by separate inland retention ponds, but on No. 16, players will enjoy (or fear) the view of Lake Waco to the right of the 130-yard hole.
Colligan Golf Design carried out renovation work at Ridgewood, and Tripp Davis is currently under contract with the club, including the reconstruction of bunkers and the relocation of greens in order to keep Plummer’s original design at peak.
