Rinkven (North)
Antwerp, Belgium- AddressRinkven Golf Club, Sint-Jobsteenweg 120, 2970 's Gravenwezel, Antwerp, Belgium
Rinkven Golf Club was inaugurated as Antwerp International Golf & Country Club in the 1980s, with Paul Rolin designing three loops of holes (Red, White and Yellow). A Blue nine was subsequently brought into play in 2006 to give the club quite a number of 18-hole permutations. Prior to the construction of an enormous new clubhouse in 2017, Russel Tally from Hawtree Ltd reworked the existing holes and added several new ones to form the North and South 18-hole layouts that are now currently in operation.
The slightly shorter North course consists mainly of holes from the old Yellow nine and newer Blue nine and it extends to three metres short of 6,000 from the back tees, with par set at 72 (36 out then 36 back).Like the South course, the holes enjoy a peaceful, mainly woodland setting where tree-lined fairways lead to well-bunkered, smallish greens. Around half the putting surfaces are raised above the green surrounds which places a premium of precision approach play.
Highlights include all the par three holes, three of which bring water into play: a pond protects the right side of the elevated green at the 149-metre 5th; tees are positioned along the side of a long, narrow pond facing the bunker-free 122-metre 12th; and further aquatic challenges arrives at the 170-metre 15th which skirts a small lake in the most northerly part of the property.
A composite 18-hole course with holes from both the North and South is used when Rinkven stages important international professional events.
