Rockville Links Club is an 18-hole golf course located in Rockville Centre, New York, situated on the southern edge of Long Island. Founded in 1923, the course was designed by Devereux Emmet, one of the most prolific golf course architects of the American Golden Age of course design. Emmet laid out the course on what was formerly open farmland, a site presenting few natural contours, requiring deliberate shaping to establish character and challenge.
Emmet addressed the flat terrain through a thoughtful routing comprised of looping nines that establish a natural rhythm across all 18 holes. Greens were subtly elevated, some rising as much as five feet above the surrounding terrain, introducing movement and strategic interest to the approach game. The bunkering style and closely mown surrounds around the greens evoke a links aesthetic, lending the course its name and character despite its inland setting.
The course occupies land historically associated with the Smith family homestead, the same land that gave Rockville Centre its name, derived from blacksmith Mordecai 'Rock' Smith. Over the century since its founding, the course has undergone periodic renovation and refinement, each undertaken with care to preserve the integrity of Emmet's original design while accommodating the demands of modern play.
