Rondebosch
Described by one commentator as “one of the grand old dames of South African golf,” Rondebosch Golf Club celebrated its centenary in 2011. The club moved around the local area during its first fifteen years of existence before finally settling in its current location, where Bob Grimsdell set out the original course.
This layout has changed a number of times down the years, most notably in the 1950s when roadworks were carried out for the Kromboom Parkway then in 1995 when Black River was widened on the other side of the course. Recent modifications have brought water into play at several holes, most notably on the short par four 16th.
Well-manicured kikuyu fairways and small, subtly contoured poa annua greens characterize the course here, where the prevailing South Easter wind can present a real challenge when it blows. The club has hosted several Sunshine Tour competitions, two Ladies European Tour events and the Women’s Masters for amateur golfers in 2017.
