St Patrick’s is the kind of course that makes you grin as much as it makes you think.  

Doak and his team have crafted a modern links masterpiece with wild, rolling fairways that sweep through the dunes without ever feeling forced. It’s golf on a grand scale with huge views, huge greens & huge fun.

To be completely open I wasn’t expecting to be wowed by St Pat’s, especially playing it immediately after the 2 most famous Irish Royal’s, but how wrong I was.  St Pat’s is a sensational fun golf course.

I’d heard it is fairly generous from the tee but it didn’t feel unduly so but the real joy here is in the approach play, which demands creativity rather than simple brute power.  The greens are massive, undulating playgrounds, each one its own little adventure that can make you laugh and cry in equal measure.  Some sprawl and fall away; others are protected by humps, hollows, or cleverly short-cut runoffs. Rarely are you simply aiming for the flag, instead you need to calculate contours, flirt with slopes, or use the green’s movement to gather the ball in.  When you get it right, it’s magic. When you don’t, well… at least the walk is beautiful.

St Patrick’s doesn’t beat you up, it invites you to get creative. For fans of movement & strategy, St Pat’s, is an absolute must. You’ll hit half a dozen shots you want to tell someone about & you’ll definitely want to go back. I certainly do.
