I played Royal Hobart a few times on reciprocal rights. I found the course too challenging because many par 4s are quite long, and the bunkers come into play on a lot of holes and some of them are quite deep and hard to get out of. The fairways were always quite well grassed and springy when I played. I once played with a 70 something ex-Aussie Open champion who despite hip replacement still shot a 72 so I could see that good golfers will enjoy the course. Unlike some of the mainland royal clubs, in my visits there was still a very old-fashioned regime in the club, men needed coat and tie to go inside, and there were only allowed on the course on women's day when the women had actually finished. Luckily we had plenty of daylight and the members always hosted me on the outside terrace after a game.
