Opened in the mid-1990s, Royal Mingalardon Golf & Country Club occupies a substantial portion of Mitsui & Co.’s 3,000-acre township development at Mingalardon Garden City, which lies to the north of Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city.
Situated just off the flight path into the International Airport, the course extends to almost 7,200 yards from the back tees, playing to a standard par of 72. Lightly bunkered, the fairways are routed around several small lakes, bringing water into play at more than half the holes on the card.
The Myanmar Open was inaugurated in 1996, eventually becoming part of the Asian Tour, and it arrived at Royal Mingalardon as a season opening event for the professionals in 2012. Kieran Pratt from Australia lifted the trophy that year, followed twelve months later by Chawalit Plaphol from Thailand when the championship returned to the same venue.
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
