Royal Swazi Spa
Royal Swazi Spa Valley is part of the hotel and casino empire of the Sun International company which operates resorts throughout the south of the African continent in Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland and South Africa – they’re the people behind the Sun City and Lost City developments at Pilanesberg.
The course here serves golfers from three nearby Sun International hotels and it’s one of a number of sporting amenities – including squash, tennis and horse riding – designed to keep guests occupied during their vacation.
Laid out in the Ezulwini Valley, this 6,782-yard championship course is routed over the slopes of the Lebombo Range with the front nine draped over comparatively level ground and the back nine set out on more hilly terrain featuring deep, thickly vegetated gullies.
Royal Swazi first opened for play in 1966 but all the greens were completely refurbished to USGA standard thirty years later. The golf club use Kikuyu grass on fairways to handle the high level of traffic on the course all the year round.
