Salta Polo Club

Salta Polo Club was formed in 1925 but golf at the club didn’t happen until 1955, with the opening of a basic, 3-hole course. Twenty years later, a member of the Jockey Club named Tomás Sanderson extended the layout to eighteen holes.

Today, the course extends to almost 7,000 yards from the tips, playing to a par of 72. Holes are arranged as two returning nines and there’s aquatic interest at half a dozen holes. There’s a lake to the right of the green at the par five 7th and the same body of water must be carried at the par three 8th. On the back nine, a ditch crosses in front of the green at the par five 12th then ponds come into play close to the green at the final three holes.

Highlight holes include the first of the par threes at the 170-yard 3rd (with the green protected at the front by a crescent-shaped bunker); the very long par five 5th (with out of bounds to the right of the fairway); the 443-yard 13th (doglegging right and narrowing towards the target); and the left bending 442-yard 15th which is rated stroke index 2.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
