San Andrés - Colombia
The founding fathers of the San Andrés Golf Club formed their club in 1945 and, within a couple of years, they established a fine 18-hole parkland layout, thanks largely to the architectural skills of Stanley Thompson, during the short time he was in partnership with Robert Trent Jones Sr.
The old master set out the fairways on a largely flat parcel of land to the north west of the capital and today, the San Andrés course has matured into a tight, tree-lined track where narrow playing corridors place a premium on pinpoint accuracy at just about every hole.
Back to back par fives at 7 and 8 are highlight holes on the front nine, whilst the water protected 6th is the pick of the three short holes on the outward half. Water comes more into play on the back nine and it plays a large part in the signature hole at the par four 11th, running all the way down the left of the fairway from tee to green.
World Top 100 Golf Courses
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
