Usually, when Tom Doak pitches up, the marketing and PR departments aren't that far behind. That is one of the reasons we are so interested in Sandglass… because there is very little about it. Perhaps that is the most clever bit of PR yet…

Sandglass Golf Club - Rolling Sands

Sandglass Golf Club is an 18-hole, Tom Doak-designed, private golf club in Florida.

Streamsong Blue was Tom Doak's first Florida design. Tom brought in a familiar face to help lead the project in Brian Zager. Kyle Harris, former superintendent at Stremasong, is the Director of Grounds for Sandlass. Brian was instrumental at Doak's Lido project and is joined by Rennaissance stalwarts Brian Schneider and Eric Iverson.

In a subtle twist, Tom Doak is using holes from St Andrews (the 11th), Muirfield, North Berwick, and at least the 13th hole at Pine Valley as inspiration here. One would have to surmise these will not simply be template holes but incorporate design elements from them to lay out his design.

The site at Sandglass was dead flat or a 'clean slate' for golf. It sounds like what NGLA was to CB MacDonald, Sandglass will be to Tom Doak. CBM used his favourite holes in Great Britain to build NGLA. It'll be interesting to see what holes will have inspired Tom from his travels around golfdom.

The course was also designed so you could play loops of less than 18 for those who don't have time for 18 at the end of their day. There aren't returning nines but rather an out-and-back routing.

There isn't a lot of information about Sandglass available and appears it'll be that way until it opens.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
