Sapey Golf Club opened in 1990 and the Rowan course is maturing nicely into one of the region’s best tracks. The downhill par three 8th is a cracking one-shotter to a green surrounded by water.

Sapey (Rowan)

Located half an hour’s drive from Worcester, Sapey Golf & Country Club first opened for business in 1990 with the 18-hole Rowan course. Set out in the rolling hills of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire border region, it’s one of Ross McMurray’s last designs before joining European Golf Design.

More than 10,000 trees and shrubs were planted during the build and these are now maturing nicely, adding definition and beauty to the layout in equal measure. The golfing facilities were further enhanced in 1999 with the addition of the 9-hole par three Oaks course, built to the same high specifications as the original layout.

The Rowan course extends to 5,998 yards from the back markers, playing to a par of 70, with three par threes on each nine. The outward half is routed around the perimeter of the property, totally enclosing the inward half, which plays marginally longer. Feature holes include the right doglegging short par four 3rd and the tough par four 14th, where a small pond comes into play.
