Saratoga Golf & Polo

The 9-holer at Saratoga Golf & Polo Club can be traced back to when the club was first established in 1896.

According to The Official Golf Guide 1899, the club was formed as Saratoga Golf Club. The entrance fee in 1899 was $15 and annual dues also $15. The guide states: “This is a nine-hole course, with good turf and well-kept greens. It is at its best from June to October, and an open tournament is usually held early in September.”

Architect Brett Hochstein commented as follows in his blog titled Best New-to-Me Golf Courses Seen in 2017:

“There is a lot more going on at this Victorian Era 9 holer than first meets the eye. The routing takes you along and over 3 key ridges that run across the property, and the end result is 9 holes that all have a different feel and character to them. Outside of the 1st hole, the greens are very subtle in appearance but contain more overall slope than first appears as well as a bunch of subtle movement. One round and anecdotal evidence says that they are very tough to figure out and putt on. The course and club have a very historic feel with the proximity to downtown Saratoga, and hopefully that will be enhanced in coming years with further restoration efforts.”
