Schloss Wilkendorf (Sandy Lyle)

The Sandy Lyle course at Schloss Wilkendorf is set in rolling secluded Brandenburg countryside to the north east of Berlin. The former Masters champion designed it with a little help from Ross McMurray of European Golf Design and the course opened for play in 1995.

Measuring more than 7,100 yards from the tips, this is a long course but the wide fairways encourage bold driving, which will be rewarded providing the numerous deep bunkers are avoided. Sandy Lyle’s first design essay is an enthusiastic layout which is nicely varied, holding your attention from the opening tee shot to the very last putt.

The signature hole arrives late on the Sandy Lyle course at the long par five 16th. The edge of the Brandenburg Forest runs the length of the hole on the left then a lake appears on the right as the fairway gentle bends in that direction towards an angled peninsula green which juts out into the water.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
