Despite being touched up by Brian Silva in 1985 and Bruce Hepner in 2010, Devereux Emmet’s 1927 Schuyler Meadows Club routing, which sits next-door to the campus of Siena College, remains largely intact. There’s even an old-fashioned yardage imbalance between the two sides.

Schuyler Meadows offers a fantastic blend of challenge, beauty, and history, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top-tier golf experience.
I recently had the pleasure of playing Schuyler Meadows the day after the New York State Mid-Am, and it was an unforgettable experience. The course played extremely difficult, with rough that was over 6 inches long, adding a serious challenge to every shot. The club itself exudes pure class, from the immaculate practice facility to the well-maintained course.
One of the most notable aspects of Schuyler Meadows is its recent tree removal program, which has opened up breathtaking vistas that enhance the natural beauty of the layout. The design is classic and has been wonderfully enhanced by Gil Hanse’s master plan, with bunkering that is both visually stunning and strategically challenging.
Several holes stood out during the round:
• The Par 4 3rd requires a semi-blind drive and approach, adding to the intrigue.
• The Par 3 4th plays uphill with a massive false front that demands precision.
• The Par 4 7th is guarded by a creek running the entire length, with a sloping fairway directing balls toward the hazard.
• The Par 4 9th features out of bounds lurking immediately behind the green, keeping you on your toes.
• The drivable Par 4 10th offers a fun risk-reward option.
• The Par 4 11th showcases a “Great Hazard” reminiscent of Tillinghast’s designs.
• The downhill Par 3 12th has a unique front-to-back sloping green.
• The Par 4 16th is surrounded by trouble at the green, demanding a precise approach.
• The Par 4 17th presents interesting and unique bunkering.
Course conditions were absolutely top-notch, making it a joy to play despite the difficulty.
