Scrabo
Within a year of its formation in 1907, Scrabo Golf Club had a 9-hole course ready for its founding members and this layout remained in play until 1971 when the purchase of additional land allowed the club to develop an 18-hole course.
Situated on high ground above Newtownards, today’s course lies on the gorse-covered contours of Scrabo Hill and there are wonderful panoramic views to be enjoyed from many of the fairway vantage points beneath the imposing landmark of Scrabo Tower.
Holes rise and fall with regularity over a dramatic landscape that affords many thrilling elevated tee positions where golfers can open their shoulders and let loose with the driver. The tone is set at the first hole where Christy O’Connor Snr has been quoted as saying it’s his favourite opening hole in all of Ireland.
