Sebonack is quite simply an unbelievable golf course that gets off to a flying start with a cracking opening short par four, followed by the toughest and best hole on the course. #2 is quite simply the best hole I’ve ever played where you have to thread your tee shot through two huge trees and then hit a precise uphill approach to a green that has the most alarming run off at the front. Ragged blow-out bunkers remind me of Coore and Crenshaw’s Sand Hills but great views across Peconic Bay create a more likeable situation. I think this is one of the best courses on Long Island and only rate NGLA and Shinnecock higher. Sebonack is on par with the Black but who wants to sleep in their car too often overnight to get a game?
