Sene Valley
Located close to the Eurotunnel terminal at Folkestone, the course at Sene Valley Golf Club lies less than a mile from the Kent coast. Holes are laid out on a gently undulating downland landscape, with golfers enjoying views of both the North Downs and the English Channel.
The club was originally founded as Folkestone Golf Club in 1888, with members playing on courses at Broadmead Farm then Radnor Park. In the mid-1960s, the latter property was sold and the club moved to where Hythe Golf Club had played up until World War II. This layout was initially set out as a 9-hole course by Ramsey Hunter, the professional at Royal St. George’s, in the mid-1890s.
Henry Cotton was engaged to remodel the layout. Ten acres of the original course around the old 1st and 18th were sold for residential development to offfset the cost of constructing a new 18-hole layout. Some of the old holes were retained or reversed and another eighteen acres were acquired on the eastern boundary, allowing new holes to be added.
Measuring around 6,300 yards from the back markers, this 18-hole layout plays to a par of 71 (35 out then 36 in) with only one par five hole on the front nine (at the left veering 8th) then back-to-back par fives on the longer back nine at holes 14 and 15.
Highlights include the two toughest par fours on the card at the 410-yard 7th and the right doglegging 10th, along with the longest par three on the card at the 203-yard 6th, played to a green which has three bunkers protecting the front of the putting surface.

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
